Things to Know & FAQ's

Planning a wedding comes with a lot of questions.

The information below will help guide you through the process and provide answers to some of the most frequently asked questions and more.

Making it Legal

Idaho Marriage Requirements

(Click HERE for state of Idaho's official website and landing page for marriage requirements)

In the state of Idaho,  marriage licenses are issued in-person by County Recorders. Some counties may require that an appointment be made ahead of time. Please note:

•You do not need to be a resident of Idaho to obtain an Idaho marriage license, however an Idaho State marriage license is only valid for ceremonies performed within the State of Idaho. •There is no waiting period before using the license; you may get married the same day. •Witnesses  are not required in the state of Idaho. •Minors, aged 17 and younger, can be legally married in Idaho however 208 Officiant does not perform these services unless terminal illness warrants immediate need to  be married.

Coordinators & Rehearsals

It is HIGHLY recommended to work with a wedding coordinator – if not for the entire wedding planning process, at least consider a ‘month of’ or ‘day of’ coordinator. Their services are invaluable and worth every penny. Please visit our Preferred Vendor page for companies we have worked with in this capacity before. To ensure your ceremony runs smoothly, 208 Officiant will attend the rehearsal provided it does not conflict with another wedding. A rehearsal typically consists of walking through your ceremony with all members of your bridal party from processional to recessional. However, if you do not hire an official coordinator, 208 Officiant may charge an additional fee to conduct these services.

Audio

For ceremonies larger than just witnesses, we ask that you include professional audio equipment for officiant use in your venue or with your DJ services. If there is a choice of microphone or lapel mic, a lapel mic is preferred. If you are not having a DJ, and instead having someone run a playlist for you, it's important that they attend the rehearsal with the music to practice before the big day. While 208 Officiant does have a speaker and mic set that can be used, it is not adequate for large audiences.

Parking & Additional Fees

For venues with limited parking, 208 Officiant asks that you ensure there is a parking space close to the venue for your officiant to park. If needed, 208 Officiant can provide a "Reserved for Officiant" sign. If your venue has fees that require the officiant to pay upon arrival, such as park entrance, lift tickets or parking fees, please ensure you advise the minister accordingly so that these fees are added to your package costs in advance.

Wedding Location & Distance

Weddings taking place more than 30 miles outside of the location of 208 Officiant in Nampa, are subject to fees related to travel distance and time. Depending on the location, the cost of one nights' accommodations may also be required to ensure the officiant is present for the rehearsal and has plenty of time to arrive before the ceremony begins.

Gratituties

One of the common questions asked is "is it customary to tip my wedding officiant"? 208 Officiant dedicates extensive time and resources curating and personalizing each ceremony. While a gratuity is never expected, offering a gift or gratuity is a wonderful way to show your appreciation for our time and efforts. Additionally, the greatest gift you can give 208 Officiant, is a positive review!

Now That You're Married...

Unless you insist on taking the signed marriage license to the county recorder office yourself , 208 Officiant will either personally take it to the Recorder's office OR mail it into the Recorder.

You will need a certified copy of your marriage license to change the name on a Driver's License, Social Security Card, Passport, etc. Please note, that updating your passport will require you to mail in the certified copy therefore it is recommended you do this last as the other agencies only need to view it. Additional certified copies can be purchased from the county Recorder.
